Screening Appointment The initial appointment in our office is referred to as a screening or consultation. At this complimentary visit, Dr. Crist will do a clinical examination of the patient. He will determine the timing and need of orthodontic treatment. He does this by ensuring that the chronological age and the tooth eruption pattern match, and whether or not crowding of the teeth is a consideration. If the patient is ready to begin treatment, then "orthodontic records" will be taken in our office, which may be the same day as the initial appointment.  If the patient is not ready for treatment we will schedule a recall appointment to observe dental growth and development. Orthodontic Records Appointment The orthodontic records include xrays, photos, and impressions for study models. These records are necessary for Dr. Crist to develop his diagnosis and treatment plan. There is a charge for these records that is separate from the treatment fee. Case Presentation A case presentation appointment is usually scheduled within 4 weeks after taking the patient's orthodontic records. At this time Dr. Crist will explain to the patient and the responsible parties his findings based on the records taken in the office. He will discuss with them his treatment plan and answer any questions regarding this treatment. The financial contract will also be reviewed and signed at this time. If needed, spacers will be placed between the patient's upper teeth in preparation for the placement of braces the following week.
